Team Mission
The Chicago Style Botdogs aims to provide an easily accessible experience in engineering, allowing students to gain first-hand experience in engineering as a right, not a privilege. Our team empowers members with the opportunity to experience, cherish, and expand their skills in science, technology, and engineering, preparing them for high school and beyond
The BotDog's were founded in 2013 under the name "X-Machina" at Lane Tech. They have expanded their program with the support of the school, local community and outreach programs. In 2017 we changed our name to "The Chicago Style BotDogs" and have been that ever since. The team continues to grow to the point where we are building multiple robots each year.
In 2025 team 4863 was formed to be the JV team at Lane Tech. They competed in their first Regional and look to expand in the future years.
Community Outreach
As a part of our mission, we strive to reach out to Chicago communities, organizations, and businesses to promote FIRST Robotics and STEM education. Rooted in the beliefs of FIRST Robotics and our team, we believe an essential part of our outreach is the fruitful connection created with the surrounding community, corporations, and organizations with our team, which creates an authentic and meaningful relationship between The Chicago Style Botdogs and the community.
Team Organization
The Chicago Style Botdogs is organized and run by the students, empowering them to control all design, organizational, and business aspects of The Chicago Style Botdogs. While the Chicago Style Botdogs does receive substantial support from our generous coaches, sponsors, and mentors, student leadership remains the ultimate decider in team decisions.
The Chicago Style Botdogs is split into four sub-teams:
Mechanical and Design
Software and Electronics
Strategy and Scouting
Media and Marketing
The Chicago Style Botdogs competes in the FIRST Robotics Competition yearly with two competition teams, FRC 4645 and FRC 4863. Each team designs, builds, and competes with their competition-ready, student-built robots.
Both teams work through FRC's short and rigorous 6-week build season to construct a capable and versatile robot. Regardless of experience, teams tirelessly work through different iterations of planning and execution to create a competent and competitive robot.
FRC 4645 is our competitive varsity-level team. Including the majority of veteran members, 4645 has a greater expertise in programming and engineering design, as members usually have at least two years of robotics experience. Every season, 4645 members construct a custom-made robot with specialized design components necessary for that season's competition. They are also our travel team that competes away from Illinois.
FRC 4863 is our competitive junior varsity-level team. 4863 consists of those who want to enter FRC's competitive straits but are new to FRC. Every season, 4863 constructs the Kitbot, a robot designed by FRC to introduce beginner teams to FRC concepts and engineering. After constructing the Kitbot, 4863 members add custom components to enhance their competitiveness on the field.
